Michigan and UConn delivered an early-season matchup worth paying attention to. From breakout performances to questions about the Huskies' depth, Thursday night's top-five showdown at Crisler Center gave us plenty to unpack. Here are three takeaways from the Wolverines' statement win.

In Case You Missed It (& What’s On Tap)

Tyler here with a NCS announcement!

Very excited to announce our very first No Cap Space Contributors Amanda Golson and Sophia Sandoval! As the NCAA season progresses you’re going to be seeing their faces both on the YouTube but also as we continue to power our print content in new ways. They’ll be creating content with us but the unique thing is that over time they will both be creating their own independent platforms where we will be supporting them 100% of the way with resources, access and collaborations. We’re branching out the NCS family tree and we couldn’t be more excited that it’s these two to kick it off.

We will have more information coming out over the next couple of months on multiple fronts but you’ll be seeing a whole lot more of both as the NCAA season continues on!

Te’Yala Delfosse Is One to Watch

Te’Yala Delfosse might be the most underrated and overlooked player in Michigan's talented junior class. The 6-foot-3 wing entered the season primed for an expanded role and wasted no time making a statement against UConn in the first-ever top-five matchup at Crisler Center in Ann Arbor.

Delfosse finished with a career-high 22 points and nine rebounds, showing just how much of an impact she can make for the Wolverines. If Thursday night was any indication, she's ready for a much bigger role this season.

Jovana Popović Is UConn's Next Star, and the Wait Is Over

Thursday's matchup against Michigan proved that Jovana Popović may already be UConn's next star. With reigning National Player of the Year Sarah Strong in early foul trouble before eventually fouling out, the freshman guard stepped up in a major way.

Popović led the Huskies with 25 points, seven rebounds, and three steals, showcasing her ability to take on a bigger role when her team needed her most. Any questions about whether she was ready for the moment were answered.

Should UConn's Depth Be a Concern?

Thursday's matchup raised some questions about the Huskies' supporting cast, as they struggled to find consistent offensive production outside of Sarah Strong and Jovana Popović. The two were the only UConn players to finish in double figures. Of course, it's only the second game of the season, and there's still time for this group to find its rhythm.

Blanca Quiñonez also appears to be off her minutes restriction after logging 25 minutes against Michigan, which could provide a much-needed boost. The question now is whether the Huskies are still figuring out how this group fits together or if their depth will become a bigger concern as the season progresses.
