Well folks, we got our fireworks about a week before the 4th of July and just like in real life when our respective neighbors light then thangs off too early, it’s annoying and at this point disturbing the peace. Gonna get right into who’s Under Surveillance this week.

In Case You Missed It (& What’s On Tap)

Andrew’s first WPBA spotlight feature on former Jackson State star and Richmond, CA native Angel Jackson who is chasing a WNBA dream in her Bay Area backyard.

Seerat Sohi joined us on Luxury Tax…

Tyler then thoroughly packed us up as Sabrina popped off in the Commissioner’s Cup Final. That’s coming later this afternoon.

Cathy Engelbert

We are on day like nine of the grand statement-off between the league, the Indiana Fever and the Phoenix Mercury. Alyssa Thomas returned to action Tuesday and spoke with media about the harassment she’s faced following the game against the Fever
and her ensuing suspension.

She called out Cathy by name and said she hadn’t heard from her, though reports from The Athletic and others state that she was in contact with Thomas via text sometime after the incident happened. So now we have a she said, she said battle right before the Commissioner’s Cup between the other rivalry you hastily tried to promote at the 11 th hour. Way to go Cathy. Andrew Haubner wrote a wonderful piece documenting the gross mishandling of this new era and I joined him on our YouTube channel to expound on that piece, and you should check out both when you get a chance. Shout out to New York fans for bringing the appropriate energy when Cathy was introduced after the Commissioner’s Cup game was played. I expect the rest of the country to follow suit and boo her wherever she goes no matter the skyline on her dress.

Paige Bueckers/Dallas Wings Fans

Now lost in the madness of last week was the chirping between Paige Bueckers and Oliva Miles. During the meeting. O-Miles took exception to a foul by Jessica Shepard and Paige decided to chime in giving us a nice little viral moment. The slander comes because Paige lost to O Miles for the third straight time this season and we need to discuss how the chosen great white hope let this happen on her watch. We also need to discuss Wings fans being pansies, once again, when it comes to Olivia Miles.

Paige and Olivia exchange words during Lynx-Wings game 😳 #wnba #basketball #paigebueckers #oliviamiles #dallaswings

After the game The Great Goggled Guard said won’t start it but she’s also not gonna “get punked just because I’m a rookie.” (I KNOW THAT’S RIGHT O-MILES!). This led to some whining from Wings fans about her attitude and demeanor and something I find interesting in the dialogue. A common sentiment on social media was O Miles absolutely had to be the antagonist because Paige never comes out of character. Huh? Paige talks s—to darn near everyone it’s just this the first time somebody was not in the mood for it at the time.

But painting a black woman as a villain like that is kinda wild and I expect Paige to add to the statement economy sooner rather than later. Also, Wings fans, tighten up. We have not forgotten how y’all wailing and gnashing your teeth over the side-by-side of O Miles and Azzi Fudd’s statistical comparisons in the Target Center during meeting #2. You’re all under surveillance.

Social Media Literacy

So Angel McCoughtry posted a redone graphic someone sent her for the WNBA’s 20th Anniversary and in the description the person said called Angel Reese overrated and they removed her and put the correct Angel in an Atlanta jersey.

McCoughtry later posted that she didn’t read the full description and just reposted. Mind you the shot at Angel Reese took up majority of the blurb so you quite literally had to read it to get to her name, but ok.

I think saw a clip of a music video McCoughtry made and that upset me more than anything. I don’t need to see her music no more, thanks! But she is begrudgingly under surveillance cuz she’s bound to do something weird again.
