How The Gateway Center Allowed Atlanta to Dream

by Andrew Haubner, No Cap Space WBB

State Farm Arena was, in many ways, Parker Woodhouse’s gateway into the game of basketball. Her father, Chris, was a coach and the family would regularly attend Atlanta Hawks games when she was in elementary school. And while she enjoyed the opportunity to see the guys hoop at the highest level, it wasn’t in that arena where young Parker fell in love with the sport.

No, that happened a bit further down Interstate-85, in a 3,000 or so seat venue just off of Camp Creek Parkway.

“I didn’t really know any [WNBA] players or anything,” the ninth grader remembers, “And then I went to a game with one of my teammates and we saw the Dream play.

That’s when I first saw Allisha Gray.”
