With an ‘Approach Mindset’, Princeton Transfer Madison St. Rose is Ready To Win At Notre Dame
by Andrew Haubner, No Cap Space WBB
When Madison St. Rose decided to put her name in the transfer portal, she leaned on a former Princeton teammate to navigate the landscape: current Golden State Valkyrie Kaitlyn Chen.
“I would call her up and I would talk her ear off,” St. Rose jokes. “She most of the time told me to just calm down.”
Of course, it was a bit more than that. Chen would know. The former Tiger spent the final year of her college career next to Paige Bueckers, helping bring UConn an NCAA title. Now enjoying a professional renaissance in the Bay Area with the Valkyries, Chen encouraged her former backcourt mate to be where her feet were through every step of the process.
“The greatest piece of advice was to kind of just take every moment by itself, and not just race my mind through each different school that I’m trying to talk to and envision myself in these different places,” says St. Rose. “But, really, just not rush the process.”
Imagine Chen’s surprise when St. Rose turned around and picked UConn’s biggest rival: Niele Ivey’s Notre Dame.
