After a week of Ball-Knower matchups, the women’s college basketball Gods decided to reward us with some absolute bangers. With Army - Navy being college football’s only Saturday marquee matchup, the eyes of the sporting world get to freely turn to UConn vs. USC as well as one of the most hyped Bedlam games we’ve had in quite some time.

On Sunday, Baylor and Texas meet in a Lone Star battle of top 15 teams while the ACC promises a couple games that could come down to the wire as well. Orienting your viewing should be easy but if you like your matchups a bit more on the hipster side, we’ve got that for you to.

Friday, December 12

Maine (3-7) vs. Fairfield (5-3): 7:00 PM ET, ESPN+

Why it’s worth a watch: The Stags have had a strange non-conference slate. They were upset in stunning fashion by Howard before dominating arguably the top mid-major in America in Richmond. While I expect them to comfortably roll Maine in this one, I’m interested in seeing this team continue to gel as MAAC play approaches.

Must-Watch Score: 6.5/10

Saturday, December 13

Arkansas (8-3) vs. Missouri State (7-3): 2:00 PM ET, ESPN+

Why it’s worth a watch: This matchup is quietly a compelling one for the MVC’s out of conference resume. Arkansas will likely have a tough time coming SEC play but, for mid-majors, any win over power conference opponents is a win for their league as a whole. Kelsi Musick’s Razorbacks have continued a tradition of pace and scoring in Fayetteville but Missouri State has shown an affinity for getting stops when needed so far this year. If you’re looking for a specific player to watch, keep an eye on 5’9 MSU guard Kaemyn Bekemeier, who leads the Lady Bears in both points (16.9 PPG) and rebounds (8.1 RPG).

Must-Watch Score: 6.5/10

Green Bay (8-3) vs. No. 20 Washington (8-1): 3:00 PM ET, B1G+

Why it’s worth a watch: I’ll always have a soft spot for the Horizon League and Green Bay, in particular. Maybe it’s because I loved our friendly mid-major curmudgeon Kevin Borseth and what he helped build but now it’s the Kayla Karius show and this game is a chance to notch a big resume win. It won’t come without difficulty as Tina Langley’s Huskies have been on fire to open the year. It’s another chance to get acquainted with Sayvia Sellers (19.2 PPG), who is quickly becoming one of the top guards in the Big Ten.

Must-Watch Score: 7/10

No. 9 Oklahoma (10-1) vs. No. 23 Oklahoma State (10-1): 4:00 PM ET, ESPNU

Why it’s worth a watch: There hasn’t been a more hyped Bedlam than this one in quite some time. Expect a track meet that stays close and a great atmosphere in Stillwater. On one side, you’ve got Stailee Heard, Haleigh Timmer and a host of shooters trying to stop Aaliyah Chavez, Raegan Beers and an Oklahoma team that wants to prove they can compete with the best this season. Tyler will be Boots on the Ground for this one, so expect some gameday content coming your way.

Must-Watch Score: 9/10

No. 1 UConn (9-0) vs. No. 16 USC (7-2): 5:30 PM ET, FOX

Why it’s worth a watch: There’s some great starpower, hype and brand recognition in this matchup between USC and UConn. While some of the juice of last year’s matchup is gone due to the absence of JuJu Watkins (injury) and Paige Bueckers (WNBA Draft), but there’s still a lot to get excited about in this one. Jazzy Davidson will be tested in ways she hasn’t before but the big question is who in a thin USC frontcourt will be able to stop the paint juggernaut tandem of Sarah and Serah. While I can see the Huskies running away with it, I’ve been surprised before. This game being on the west coast may play to the Women of Troy’s advantage.

Must-Watch Score: 9.5/10

Sunday, December 14

Auburn (8-2) vs. Seton Hall (5-3): 1:00 PM ET, ESPN+

Why it’s worth a watch: Much like Arkansas vs. Missouri State, this is an under-the-radar important NET game for the Big East. Of all the teams not named UConn, Seton Hall has the best chance of propping up the league and being their second NCAA bid this year. But after losses to Princeton, NC State and Columbia, the Pirates need to pull together and win a few more games before January. Guard Jada Eads will be tested against an Auburn trio of Kaitlyn Duhon, Mya Petticord and Harissoum Coulibaly.

Must-Watch Score: 7/10

No. 13 Baylor (10-1) vs. No. 2 Texas (11-0): 1:00 PM ET, ABC

Why it’s worth a watch: This is another ‘Nicki Collen under the microscope’ matchup for Baylor. Taliah Scott has proven to be one of the biggest transfer wins of the cycle, averaging 23.8 points per game for the Bears and will likely command a good chunk of Texas’ defensive attention. But how will the rest of the supporting cast, from Bella Fontleroy to Darianna Littlepage-Buggs, be able to step up against one of the deeper Longhorn teams in recent memory? While Madison Booker and Rori Harmon have been commanding much of the media attention around this Texas team, don’t sleep on Jordan Lee or freshman Aaliyah Crump either.

Must-Watch Score: 9.5/10

West Virginia (9-2) vs. Texas A&M (6-1): 3:00 PM ET, SECN+

Why it’s worth a watch: Joni Taylor feels as though she’s been on the hot seat for three seasons in College Station and has yet another season with a strange mid-major loss (UT Arlington) on the early resume. Competing with West Virginia would be a huge boost for the program ahead of a gauntlet of an SEC schedule. The Mountaineers aren’t above a random early season loss themselves (Villanova) and need to keep the Big 12’s league NET up before the new year as well. It’s another fun battle of diminutive guards between WVU’s Gia Cooke (5’8, 16.5 PPG) and TAMU’s Ny’Ceara Pryor (5’3, 17.0 PPG).

Must-Watch Score: 7/10

Penn State (6-3) vs. No. 3 South Carolina (9-1): 3:30 PM ET, ESPN

Why it’s worth a watch: Don’t get me wrong, this game is probably going to be a blowout win for the Gamecocks. But there are some really cool individual battles here that should be fun to watch. Gracie Merkle (22.3 PPG, 8.0 RPG) will see a true frontcourt test in Madina Okot (14.8 PPG, 11.1 RPG) and Joyce Edwards (19.4 PPG, 6.1 RPG). The Nittany Lions don’t have a counter for the latter but Merkle vs. Okot should be fun. Factor in Kiyomi McMiller (19.0 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 5.6 APG) vs. Raven Johnson, and this thing could become compelling.

Must-Watch Score: 7.5/10

No. 22 Louisville (9-3) vs. No. 12 North Carolina (9-2): 4:00 PM ET, ACCN

Why it’s worth a watch: Jeff Walz and his Cardinals nearly stole a huge upset win over South Carolina, showing that Louisville has some life after all. Both they and North Carolina have the vibe of being potential second weekend NCAA Tournament teams with a hard ceiling of Sweet Sixteen. While lacking the top-end talent of some of the other marquee games this weekend, I usually like when we get two programs that are evenly matched. These two are. The matchup to watch? UL’s Tajianna Roberts vs. UNC’s Indya Nivar.

Must-Watch Score: 8.5/10

California (8-3) vs. Stanford (8-2): 4:00 PM ET, ACC Extra

Why it’s worth a watch: Ah, yes. Who doesn’t love one of the ACC’s most historic rivalries? Cal vs. Stanford. Realignment jokes aside, this should be a fun one on Sunday afternoon. Kate Paye has gotten her feet under her in year two at the helm, allowing Nunu Agara (15.8 PPG, 8.8 RPG) to flourish as the Cardinal’s next great big. There still is the matter of who is the true point guard of this Stanford team but, much like the back end Tara Vanderveer years, they seem to be winning by committee there. Cal is still trying to figure out a post-Marta Suarez world but South Carolina transfer Sakima Walker (10.6 PPG, 7.0 RPG) has become a fun frontcourt option for the Golden Bears.

Must-Watch Score: 8/10

Monday, December 15

South Florida (6-4) vs. No. 14 Vanderbilt (9-0): 7:30 PM ET, SECN+

Why it’s worth a watch: How close will this thing actually be? I’m not sure. South Florida has run hot (wins over Duke and Harvard) and cold (huge losses to UCLA and UConn). I’m expecting more of the latter here and, with USF’s Edyn Battle out with an injury, it’s likely the Bulls just don’t have the firepower to compete. But this game is less about the matchup and more about a singular player. After all, right there with Audi Crooks and Sarah Strong in the early player of the year conversation is Mikayla Blakes (25.7 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 3.9 APG, 3.7 SPG).

Must-Watch Score: 7/10

The Three Can’t Miss Matchups…

No. 9 Oklahoma (10-1) vs. No. 23 Oklahoma State (10-1): 4:00 PM ET, ESPNU

No. 1 UConn (9-0) vs. No. 16 USC (7-2): 5:30 PM ET, FOX

No. 13 Baylor (10-1) vs. No. 2 Texas (11-0): 1:00 PM ET, ABC
