Led By Rookies And Youth Movement, The Washington Mystics Are Fun Again!
It is early season over reaction time of year. Kiki Iriafen and Sonia Citron have provided plenty of material to be excited about.
While it has not been an absolutely perfect start, the Mystics have found two incredible young pieces in Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen that are poised to change their franchise.
Over the course of their three games, the third and fourth overall picks in this year’s draft have had multiple standout moments and statlines. And with that comes enough material to overreact!
Kiki Iriafen has already posted two double-doubles out of her three games so far and it has served as a reminder of the player she is and can be. While her tenure at USC wasn’t the smoothest, Iriafen was in the initial talks to be the number two overall pick in this year’s draft for good reason. The mid-range is what she is known for but her all-around skills on both sides of the ball have been on display early into her pro career.
And for Sonia Citron? Talk about pro-ready. I have already been on the record as *very* high on Citron and I only have become more confident in that assessment as her pro career has kicked off. I am not the only one either. After Citron had an incredibly productive 2nd half vs the Sun scoring 13 of her 15 total points and breaking up several plays on the defensive end, Mystics Vet Brittney Sykes, who fouled out of the game with 27 points, said that Citron told her “I just finished what you started” and followed it up with “what rookie says that?”. A special one does.
What else has been so impressive about the start to the season for these two rookies? How can they potentially shift the landscape of the WNBA? It is all broken down on the No Cap Space YouTube.
