It doesn’t take a basketball savant to recognize the differences between the Dallas Wings of last year and this year. It starts with new head coach Jose Fernandez, whose arrival marked a new era in the Metroplex.
A system that appears incredibly player friendly on the offensive end of the ball. Freedom to play mixed in with sets that emphasize guards running off screens has provided early returns of players being almost unnaturally open.
With that system, along with the usage of three guard lineups, it feels like the potential for players to carve out roles for themselves and prove their talent is going to be available this season. Wings star Paige Bueckers pulled the curtain back on why the system provides such opportunities.
