Mentioning Cam & Kiki would have given some perspective that she was sitting behind 2 All Americans. And if Tara's system was well known as you mention certainly Lauren would have known that. Lauren had issues before entering Stanford and that played a large part of her issues.
I don't think that a person's general struggles with confidence should be used as a cudgel to explain away why they might not have fit in a certain system. I don't blame Stanford but that part of the story serves to explain her reasoning for leaving.
